OneAcadia Gets Regional Notice

Leaders of OneAcadia were extremely encouraged by the attendance of Wednesday’s OneCommittee Event held at “The Bank” in Rayne. Nearly forty members, potential members and leaders throughout Acadia and beyond were present at the gathering. The parish-wide business-alliance designed the event for all five committees of the organization to meet at the same time, but at individual tables. Participants got an overview of the focus for each group and then selected a committee on which to serve. After an hour of meeting roundtable-style the entire group reconvened for a briefing from each table. Specific goals and action plans for pro-business policies, education, and crime-enforcement were shared.

OneAcadia Interim Executive Director Laurie Suire felt the presence of three economic development agencies was among the event’s highlights.

Lafayette Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Jason El Koubi and Chairperson of the Board Julie Dronet were in attendance. The pair addressed OneCommittee attendees about their interest in the success of OneAcadia. “The whole is greater than the sum of its parts,” said Dronet about the Lafayette Chamber’s vision of a “OneAcadiana Super Region.” El Koubi emphasized the theme of regionalism and offered to work “shoulder-to-shoulder” with OneAcadia on the journey to becoming a stronger, unified parish. Lafayette Economic Development Authority Director Gregg Gothreaux and Acadiana Economic Development Council Director Rebecca Shirley were also present to offer support and agency resources.

“Having their support puts some muscle behind our mission. They are very impressed with OneAcadia as it echoes their own vision, and they sincerely want to see and help us succeed,” says Suire.

Of OneCommitttee, Suire says the inaugural event surpassed expectations. “Each committee table was filled, some overflowing. Concerned residents and leaders in those areas alike sat side by side and shared honest dialogue about challenges and opportunities in the parish, and they began discussing ideas supported by concrete action.”

Chairman of the OneACadia Board Pat Bordes that appreciative for the community response. “We are very thankful to those who were able to join us or who reached out with a sincere interest to participate and support the initiative. It is only through the action of our membership that OneAcadia will accomplish meaningful achievements that impact us all,” says Bordes. “Talent abounds within our parish. Joining the forces of those talents and being an organization of action, OneAcadia can achieve remarkable things – one ‘win’ at a time.”

A focused marketing effort to increase OneAcadia membership was rolled out that includes four “get acquainted” socials in June and July. The organization’s next OneCOMMITTEE Event with be Thursday, June 26.
